London is an international centre of of arts, music, festivals, museums. Its cultural life embraces both classic and modern trends, including the amazing blend of world cultures. London is famous for its rock scene, including The Clash, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Libertines, and Pink Floyd. It hosts concerts of most major bands, and has been the base of many other famous projects. The London scene is distinguished by flourishing punk rock, alternative rock and Britpop. London is home to many exclusive clubs such as Ministry of Sound, and popular music venues such as Hammersmith Apollo, Wembley Arena, Albert Hall, London Astoria.

London possesses one of the richest art collections. The British National collection of Western Art to 1900 is held at The National Gallery. Other major collections of pre-1900 art are The Wallace Collection, the Courtauld Gallery at the Courtauld Institute of Art and Dulwich Picture Gallery. The national collection of post-1900 art is at Tate Modern and the national collection of British Art is at Tate Britain. The National Portrait Gallery has a major collection dedicated to prominent British people from all periods. The Royal Academy features temporary art exhibitions.

London hosts several festivals, fairs and carnivals, the most famous of them The Notting Hill Carnival. Other celebrated events are St. Patrick's Day (March 17) and St. George's Day (April 23). Several last years are also characterized by thriving of the world ethnic events, or festivals, having discernible pacifist or environmental protection character.
